The advancement of information technology in the twenty-first century has profoundly changed our educational system. The use of the internet in teaching and learning has become more common in higher education. The reality is that online learning is the new mode of instructional delivery that is now available to students. A growing number of students are now opting for online classes. They find the traditional classroom modality restrictive, inflexible, and impractical. In this age of technological advancement, schools can now provide effective classroom teaching via the Web. This shift in pedagogical medium is forcing academic institutions to rethink how they want to deliver their course content.

This book is intended to explore a variety of facets of online learning environments to understand how learning occurs and succeeds in digital contexts and what teaching strategies and technologies are most suited to this format. Online program/course offerings in higher education are becoming an integral part of educational delivery for post-secondary institutions. Convenience and flexibility of online learning fosters continuous learning opportunities, which is particularly important for those who have competing family priorities. Students who are balancing family life, employment, and student life find online learning to be more conducive to their learning as it fits with their schedule. "Specifically, women who have families and jobs, students parenting young children, and students who are pregnant were found to benefit from E-Learning". The application of new technologies and simulations encompasses teaching-learning processes in a growing number of areas. In addition, the rapid evolution and diffusion of technology as well as the obsolescence suffered by this type of applications compel us to maintain a constant development of new tools. Furthermore, the current epidemiological situation regarding COVID-19 has encouraged the adoption of non-formal education and, as current developments indicate, it seems likely that distance learning will gain more weight in the near future.

For non-face-to-face flipped learning, which was widely employed during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to examine the impacts on learning satisfaction, which may vary depending on professor-student interaction rather than individual competencies, such as SDL readiness. The advent of online education has made it possible for students with busy lives and limited flexibility to obtain a quality education. As opposed to traditional classroom teaching, Web-based instruction has made it possible to offer classes worldwide through a single Internet connection. Although it boasts several advantages over traditional education, online instruction still has its drawbacks, including limited communal synergies. Still, online education seems to be the path many students are taking to secure a degree. The COVID-19 pandemic is certainly one of the most devastating problems that we face today. Everyone is affected by the pandemic. The difference is how and to what extent you are affected. Education is key to the long-term solution that we need. This book aims to analyze the status of distance learning in higher education and explore the effects of learning engagement and self-directed learning readiness among variables related to learners on academic performance.
